About This Course

NASPA is pleased to once again partner with NACUA on a webinar presentation.

Protections from discrimination for pregnant and parenting students are among the lesser known aspects of Title IX.  With the increase of “non-traditional” students on campus and the shifting views on the balance between education, career, and family, this aspect of Title IX is “the new frontier” according to a scholar in this area.  The effects of pregnancy discrimination in the academic pipeline are only now being subject to increased scrutiny.  Therefore, being well-versed in providing reasonable accommodations to pregnant and parenting students is critical to ensuring equal educational access to all students, which is the basis of complying fully with Title IX.

This webinar aims to review key areas and considerations for accommodating pregnant and parenting students in compliance with Title IX.  Through the use of a continuing scenario, this webinar will cover:

  • Institutions’ legal obligations to pregnant and parenting students,
  • Developments and trends in enforcement and litigation,
  • Key considerations for developing internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance, and
  • Practical advice for handling pregnancy and parenting accommodations in complex settings.

This webinar will be of interest to general counsel and attorneys who advise colleges and universities on pregnancy accommodations, as well as administrators such as Title IX Coordinators, academic deans, faculty, and clinical staff who work with campus community on pregnancy and parenting matters.
