About This Course

This course is $99 for members of the Sexual and Relationship Violence Prevention, Education, and Response KC. For more information about pricing (and how to make sure you're getting the appropriate discount), please read below the course description.

Relationship and dating violence on campus is not new. What is relatively new is the requirement for campuses to raise awareness of and provide prevention education about relationship violence for all incoming students as part of the Clery Act. As a result of this increased awareness and education, students who experience relationship violence are coming forward more often to report their experiences to campus authorities. The ability of student affairs pracititioners to determine the predominant aggressor in domestic violence cases is extremely important and sometimes very difficult to determine. This live briefing will provide tools for student affairs practitioners who work in this area to develop the skills needed to assist in making this determination, which can help guide investigation and adjudication on these sensitive cases.

Determining the predominant aggressor in domestic violence is extremely important and sometimes very difficult to determine when on the scene. It is my hope that through this training you will gain a greater understanding of domestic violence. Throughout this module, you will be shown that with just a basic understanding of the neurobiology of trauma that this will assist you in making this determination. Also that making dual arrests because you were unable to determine the predominant aggressor should not be an option. We will explore self-defense and common areas where those wounds might appear. Other options and ideas will also be shown. It is my hope that the audience will be able to contribute in adding additional ideas that may have been mentioned during the discussion.

Learning Outcomes

As a result of attending this webinar, attendees will be able to:

  • understand how trauma will show in the narrative of the victim in most but not all violent encounters;
  • articulate how finding more about past history of the relationship will help with the insight of what happened in a given case;
  • understand how improving the documentation of a violent event will help with future determinations about recurring incidents; and
  • identify how assessing physical wounds will help determine if the story is consistent with the injury.

This session is $99 for members of the Sexual and Relationship Violence Prevention, Education, and Response KC, $149 for NASPA members, $220 for non-members. Pricing will be accurately reflected in your cart. Please note that NASPA membership is required to be elegible for KC pricing.
