While females make-up only 16% of the military, they are approximately 27% of those who utilize Veterans Affairs education benefits. There is a dearth in scholarship around the specific needs of female veterans and the often gendered transition challenges they face in their post-military life. The presenter will share her thesis research, which was designed to explore the concerns and needs of former enlisted female veterans and what they encountered during their post-military transition while engaged in higher education.
Attendees of this session will:
be able to name three gender/sex specific impacts of military service on prior enlisted female veterans;
be able to identify three areas of concern for female veterans at the university; and
engage in conversation around potential opportunities to develop programming and support services for female veterans.
This session will be aligned with the needs of graduate students and professionals with up to 10 years of experience.
