ABOUT

A recent report published by the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior shown that nearly 60% of students in the study reported experiencing food insecurity at some point during the previous year. (Patton-Lopez, Lopez-Cevallos, Cancel-Tirado, & Vazquez, 2014)  According to the study, food insecurity during these years can potentially affect college students' cognitive, academic, and psychosocial development. Food Insecurity is a growing trend on college campuses across the country.  In a society where access to a college education makes you a "have" how do we juxtapose the fact that close to 250 colleges and universities have food banks/pantries to help support their students? We will discuss how this new trend is affecting our campus communities.
