The Unseen Challenge to Student Success at Community Colleges

with John Maduko, Julia Arreguy, Ali Janjua

About This Course

Sponsored by Ready Education

Is your community college keeping its students from being successful?

Community colleges enroll over 40% of all undergraduate students in the U.S. Yet, completion rates at these institutions are dismally low. Community college students often come from lower-income households, or from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups. They face enormous financial, personal and logistical challenges to completion. While many community colleges are examining these challenges closely and implementing resources to address them, this is only part of the solution.

What most people don’t realize is that there are invisible challenges to student success that exist at community colleges and that institutions may be unknowingly exacerbating these challenges and impacting student success.

In this session, Dr. O. John Maduko (vice chancellor of student affairs at North Central Texas College) and Julia Arreguy (manager of software integrations (SSSP) at Sierra College) will discuss these hidden challenges to student success, and how they have been able to address them at their respective institutions.
